Pooling data with confidential computing

Confidential computing leverages resent breakthroughs in hardware development that enables protected memory that can only by accessed by designated processing units. These units have their own cryptographic identity making them able to both sign data as well as receiving encrypted data.

In practice this translates into the possibility to run verifiable logic over non-anonymized data in a consortium pool to gain shared and insights. Confidential computing capabilities pair well with enterprise crypto networks and blockchains as these combines into an unbroken cryptographic chain of storing, transferring, and computing data.

Confidential computing hardware is available from all the major cloud providers and when running on middleware such as R3 Conclave it can run standard logic such as Java or Kotlin making it readily available for any organization.

Known structures unlocking distributed analysis

Well defined consortiums storing data in accordance with predictable information models enables the possibility of distributed analysis. Parties such as regulatory authorities could provide cryptographically signed logic, perhaps validated by an independent third party, that is executed in each consortium members proprietary environment and the signed results could then be returned to the initiating party. The benefits of this approach are many but perhaps greatest in the fact that the party in need of insights is also doing the development and thus driving the results.
